About Sesquipedalia
Sesquipedalia was primarily created so that I could have a custom “Word of the Day” sidebar “widget” for my main DrikoLand blog. The solutions that I had come across didn’t appeal to me, so I created this blog and have it set to publish a new word once a day from its queue. The DrikoLand sidebar “widget” in turn displays the latest Sesquipedalia post. Simple! OK, sort of simple. ;-p
In case you’re interested, here’s a list of sources and inspirations for the blog, listed in descending order of frequency:
- “Favorite” words of mine; I know, pretty subjective, but it’s my blog ;-p
- Words I’ve (re)discovered and/or had to look up during my various meanderings through the Interwebs
- The Dord, the Diglot, and an Avocado or Two: The Hidden Lives and Strange Origins of Common and Not-So-Common Words
- The words David Foster Wallace circled in his dictionary.
- Word Spy
- Obsolete Word of the Day
I generally link to one of the following web sites for definitions:
If you haven’t already installed the WikiLook extension (if you use the Firefox web browser, that is), then I highly recommend it, as it monitors links to both sites and conveniently pops up definitions/entries.
I’ll update this post if and when I have any other thoughts or find some more sources that I use regularly. Thanks for visiting!
